In shopping for a "walker alternative," we researched the Evenflo, the Chicco (we love their car seat), and the Kolcraft activity centers. I don't know if it was the smiling face that enticed us to try out the Kolcraft but, we have been thrilled with our (seven month old) daughter's reaction to Wally. For my wife and I, it's really all about whether the activity center captures her attention through the variety of developmental toys available on the console. Our daughter spends tons of time playing with the antennae, grabbing the ball, and pressing the worm that plays music and lights up. Every activity has complementary sounds and she becomes completely absorbed within her surroundings. The ultimate test for us was heading out to my in-laws and putting her in the Evenflo center that they have at their house. The legs are one height. For our little one to reach the toys, we had to put the seat at its highest setting (which is supposed to be for the oldest babies) so she could reach the toys and put a solid pillow under her feet. She has loved it since she was 3 months old. The toys are great, it's solid and colorful, it's safe, all that and more, BUT I'm telling people not to buy it, but choose one where the LEGS are adjustable. I think the wording is misleading. It certainly mislead me. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known the legs didn't adjust. It's also light weight and easy to move around the house which is a plus if you typically use it in more than one room in your home. Many other entertainers that we have looked at were very heavy and bundle-some and wouldn't be easy to move around from room to room. The WonderBug is loaded with a variety of toys that rattle, play music and flash lights. The seat spins 360 degrees so baby can easily access all the toys and snack tray is located in the back of the activity center. On this activity center the height is adjusted by the belt at the bottom of the seat. The seat also detaches easily if it needs to be washed. Another great aspect of this activity center is ability to break it down easily to store or to travel with. This is my favorite feature of the WonderBug because many other activity centers do not break down this easily (or break down at all) for better storage making it a difficult item to store away when no... The whole thing folds up really easily into the carring case. I would have given it a 5 star review but the only complaint that I have about it is that it is really hard to get the latches into place. It does require some significant strength or paticence to fully assemble it. I am not too conserned about it though because that means that I will not have to worry about it easily falling apart and as well the manuel did mention that the first few times the latches would be a bit stiff. Over all if I had the choice I would buy it over and over again. MY DAUGHTER WOULDN'T SLEEP IN IT. SO I ENDED UP PUTING A PORTA-CRIB MATTRESS IN IT EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS NOT TO. IT DID SEEM TO GIVE IT MORE SUPPORT AND SHE FINALLY SLEPT IN IT. I DID LIKE THAT IT HAD A CADDY FOR THE DIAPERS AND WIPES. ALTHOUGH MY DAUGHTER IS ONLY THREE MONTHS AND ALREADY TOO BIG FOR THE CHANGING TABLE. ALL IN ALL, I GOT WHAT I PAID FOR. I thought I would get more use out of this then a side-crib or bassinet. The bassinet support wasn't very supportive or firm. It would sag under his weight (7lbs) and after his 3rd night (ie 3 days old) I awoke and found him on his side twice. This scared me since he was too young to turn himself back over. After watching him I realized that all he had to do to turn over was arch his back and the elasticity in the support would buckle enough that he would end up on his side. We ended up taking it down and storing it until we travel or he's old enough to hang out at the bottom and sit up to be lifted out. I think the product would work great as a play pen, travel bed (if using the bottom only). Assembly was easy after we got the hang of it and it was easily portable from room to room. Push the fabric seat down thru the middle of the exersaucer as if it were properly in place. Make sure the white label sewn onto the seat is toward the INSIDE of the seat at the moment. The label should also be toward the back of the seat, which is where the baby's back would be. The white sewn-on label has a red diamond on it, though mine was washed off. It should be toward a tiny triangle mark molded into the outside of the seat back. 2. Fold the seat fabric over the red plastic seat back so the white sewn-on label is now on the outside of the seat rim. Do the same all around, so the fabric covers the red plastic seat rim sort of like a padded bumper. 3. Grab a thin implement like a butter knife. Put the point of the knife inside one of the elastic loops and push it between the seat ring and the rotating ring, from outside to inside. It's pretty basic, but our 4-month-old enjoys it. We weren't sure if she'd be able to sit and play in it yet, although it is recommended for 4 months and up, but she does just fine. If your baby is still a little wobbly, like ours, just be sure she keeps her hands up near the tray. Our daughter sometimes puts her hands down into the seat near her legs, and has almost hit her head on one of the toys when she couldn't balance without her hands. My only complaint about this exersaucer is that the toys are kind of lame. The spinning frog is a hit, but the other toys are pretty bland chunks of plastic. Luckily, you can buy "Switcheroos," different toys that snap in and out of the holes in the tray. Some of these are much more interesting than the included toys, so I think we'll be upgrading soon. My baby would be overstimulated by all the lights and noise of the more expensive versions. It is a great place for baby to bounce and have fun in and it gives parent's arms a break. I can't imagine the average four month old enjoying it, it seems more suited to a six month old child. The assembly took about 30 minutes. Read the directions before you begin and don't try to do it with your little one around. One place where the instuctions are not as clear as they could be: When you put the three yellow legs into position, they just hang there. Don't, as I did, waste your time trying to snap them into position.They won't be held firm until the next step when you you slip in the springs and position the caps. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product. My little one (we got this when he was 6 months old) loves to play in it. As someone else pointed out, the toys could be better for teething on but that wouldn't prevent me from buying this product.
